My First Time Doing Street Portraits of Strangers

Of all the shots I took that day, this was my favorite one.

For the longest time I have been wanting to do the street portrait challenge. For those of you who don’t know what that is, basically, it’s when you go out on the streets with your camera and ask strangers if they will allow you to take a portrait of them. So I went out the Clearwater Beach and built up enough courage to ask random strangers if I could take their portraits. It was a lot of fun, although I have to admit that I was a bit intimidated at first. The more I walked around and talk to people the easier it got for me. There were a few times where I wanted to ask somebody if I could take their portrait, but I just couldn't do it. Overall, this has been a fun, and learning experience. Everybody was extremely nice to me, even the ones that declined.

I really enjoy, travel and street photography, but to actually ask people if I can take their portrait is completely different, and I am glad I did it. I am already planning on doing this again, but at a different location! So stay tuned!

If you've been on the fence about doing something like this, I say go for it! Conquer your fear and don’t let it stop you from doing things in life. For me, the simple interactions with people was priceless!

Portraits

These are the only shots I was able to get that day. I shot with the Panasonic Lumix GX9 and the Panasonic Lumix Leica Nocticron 42.5mm f/1.2. Make sure you watch the vlog, I actually vlogged this!
