Arriving in Vernazza, Cinque Terre
[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4D3x65R9DU&w=700&h=394] After my day trip to Pisa, Italy we headed to further north to Vernazza, Cinque Terre, which would be our base for the next four days. Cinque Terre (The Five Lands) is made up of five seaside villages on the Italian Riviera in the Liguria Region. Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso Al Mare make up the Cinque Terre and each village has a distinct look, feel, and vibe. One of the neat things of the Cinque Terre towns is that it is a very short train ride between each town giving you the opportunity to explore each one, or you can hike from town to town which is a neat experience. We did a mix of both. While the hike allows for some breath taking views, it can also take your breath away so bring some good walking shoes and plenty of water!
Upon arriving at the station in Vernazza, we were greeted by the gentleman from whom we were renting the apartment. He walked us through the main (and only) street through town and pointed out his favorite local spots. Once we were settled in our apartment we decided to head down to the harbor for a quick swim before dinner. The water was very refreshing after a long day of travel. Later we headed out to the dock area to catch the sunset, the view was spectacular. For dinner we ate at Gambero Rosso, which was highlighted in several travel videos we saw prior to our trip so we were excited to try the food here. We had fun trying dishes that are native to this area like mixed anchovies, trofie with pesto, and grilled fish. It was all very delicious. We capped off the evening with gelato from Gelateria Vernazza.
Next post I'll have actual video of the hike from Vernazza to Monterosso Al Mare where you'll be able to see some beautful views. Stay tuned!
